Authorities are investigating a house fire that left one person dead in Patton Village.
Firefighters with the Splendora Fire Department responded to a call for power lines down just before 5 a.m. Tuesday.
As the fire crews were leaving the scene, they saw smoke coming from the nearby woods.
Firefighters eventually found a house fully engulfed with flames and called for help from New Caney and Caney Creek fire departments.
After putting out the flames, officials say they found a body inside the home.
Investigators say the body was so badly burned that they could not tell whether it was a man or a woman.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine an official cause of death and to help identify the body.
The Montgomery County Fire Marshal is investigating.
