Police said a 41-year-old man was assaulting a woman in the parking lot of the Walmart when a good Samaritan intervened.

Authorities said the man then pulled out a weapon and fired multiple rounds, which fatally struck the good Samaritan in the neck. A stray bullet hit a bystander who was in the parking lot and shrapnel hit a woman who was sitting in the passenger seat of a green Toyota, authorities said.

McManus said the woman being assaulted got away, and the shooter was later located at Castroville and Cupples roads and arrested.

The victim’s family has not been contacted yet.
