HOUSTON – A woman was arrested and her boyfriend is wanted after doctors discovered her 8-month-old child had suffered more than 20 fractures, according to deputies.

Harris County deputies said Kardea Lockett, 18, and her boyfriend, Nicholas Tyler, 19, brought the child to the emergency room at Northwest Medical Center on March 14. They said the couple told doctors they were concerned because a soft spot had developed on the child’s head.

An examination of the child revealed the child had suffered more than 20 fractures, some of which had healed, deputies said.

Investigators said Lockett and Tyler offered differing stories about how the child had been injured.

Both Lockett and Tyler were charged with injury to a child by submission and injury to a child with serious bodily injury.

Lockett was arrested and was being held in jail on $20,000 bond.

Tyler, who is not the father of the child, is being sought. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to his charging or arrest in the case.

Anyone with information on Tyler’s whereabouts was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
