SUGAR LAND, Texas -

A fiery wreck involving a big rig left one person dead and shut down part of the Southwest Freeway on Tuesday.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office said a tanker truck was involved in a crash with three other vehicles on Highway 59 South at Grand Parkway shortly before 6 p.m.

The southbound lanes of the freeway were closed and traffic was diverted onto the service road until the scene could be cleared. The lanes are expected to remain closed for several hours.

Officials said the tanker was empty.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
