HOUSTON – Skateboarders in the Houston area will soon have a new park to call their own.

On Monday, the city broke ground on a big new skate park.

Mayor Annise Parker even hopped on a board to celebrate Houston's newest attraction to celebrate the huge milestone.

"This is going to be an economic boost in a lot of ways," she said.

In front of a crowd, local leaders broke ground on the Spring Skate Park in Greenspoint.

"We're taking one other big step forward in that we're going to be the largest competition skate park in the country," Mayor Parker said.

The new park comes with five pools mixed with hand rails, stairs, ditches and banks.

The park will be officially complete in April 2014.
