The city of Houston created a Web site to help give back thousands of dollars owed to hundreds of Houstonians.

City Controller Judy Gray Johnson said more than 1,000 Houstonians and businesses are owed approximately $48,000 in unclaimed cash.

The checks are $100 or less, and are mainly from forgotten deposits or transactions with the city.

"We would love to give this money back to the people to which it is owed. It is not the city's cash to keep. We need your help in making this happen," Johnson said.
