Payless Expands Recall Of Toddler Clogs
Shoes Pose Choking Hazard
POSTED: Tuesday, July 17, 2007
WASHINGTON -- Payless ShoeSource has expanded a recall of children's clog shoes because of a choking hazard.
About 270,000 pairs of the toddler shoes are being recalled because the plastic rivets that attach the strap to the shoe can detach and cause choking if swallowed. In May, about 690,000 pairs of the clogs were recalled.
No injuries or incidents have been reported, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recalled clogs, which were manufactured in China, include the following styles: Dora the Explorer, Spongebob Squarepants, Hello Kitty, Coasters Lighted Car Compel and Cambridge Mary-Jane.
The shoes, sold in toddler sizes 5 to 10, have air ventilation holes on the top and/or side. No other sizes, styles or models are included in the recall, the CPSC said.
The clogs were sold nationwide at Payless stores and Payless.com from January 2006 through June 2007.
People who bought the shoes should take them away from young children and return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund or exchange.
