CHICAGO -

If you're shopping for a compact car, you'll have two more options a little later this year.

Hyundai is adding coupe and 5-door models to its popular Elantra, which is currently available only as a 4-door sedan. Hyundai introduced the two new models at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show Wednesday.

The coupe will be the first 2013 Elantra to hit the showroom. Hyundai expects the car to go on sale this spring, and it is expected to reach 40 mpg on the highway.

Hyundai boasts more power and space than a comparable Honda Civic Coupe, saying the car actually competes more closely with the larger Honda Accord Coupe.

2013 Hyundai Elantra GT

As for the GT, Hyundai looked to Europe for inspiration in styling and handling of the 5-door model, which replaces the former Elantra Touring. Hyundai brags that the GT is actually lighter by about 200 pounds than competitors like the Ford Focus, Mazda 3 and Volkswagen Golf.

Under the hood of the GT, there's a new 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, which helps the car achieve a 39 mpg rating on the highway.

One of the clever tricks of the GT is a back-up camera hidden under the badge. When you put the car in reverse, the badge flips up and the camera image is shown to the driver.

The GT will go on sale in early summer. Pricing for both models will be announced closer to the time they hit the showrooms.
