Introduced to the U.S. in 1973, Passat is German for "trade wind." With a 2.0L and clean diesel engine, the Passat gets a remarkable 43 mpg highway and 31 mpg city with manual transmission. The automatic transmission gets 40 mpg highway and 30 mpg city.
