Once customary to fly a flag from “dawn to dusk,” it has become customary for many people to fly the American flag 24 hours a day.

If you choose to leave your flag up after dusk it is important to ensure that it is properly lit up.

In the Presidential Proclamation on May 5, 1972, it was noted that the flag of the United States is a symbol of our freedoms and that all citizens and visitors arriving in the country should be greeted by a waving flag, day or night.
