Company Pays Drivers For Back Window Ads

The average U.S. driver spends about 100 hours a year on the road commuting to and from work. A Houston entrepreneur wants to help drivers make money while they're on the move, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.

Before Shawn McCoy was a small-business owner, he was a driver. So, it seems fitting that his big idea hit him while in traffic.

"Everyone's in traffic. Everyone, especially in Houston. You're looking at the back of other vehicles constantly," he said.

Accelerads are moving billboards pasted on the back of car windows.

Businesses pay drivers for the publicity. The more you drive, the more you make, up to $400 a month.

"I would use it for gas and I love to eat out," driver Shelia Whitfield said.

With almost 1,000 drivers registered, McCoy hopes his business takes off.

"A lot of people are saying, 'Why didn't I think of this?'" he said.

But, the registered drivers are only half the equation. McCoy is still trying to sell businesses on the idea.
