Website Wednesday: Energy Bills, Patron Saint, White House Tour
GE Helps Consumers Save Money
Save On Energy Bill
There's a new way to save on your energy bill. GE Lighting introduced a new lighting auditor called Gela. Gela calculates lighting usage and then gives a list of more efficient ways for homeowners to save on their next energy bill. The site also recommends what light bulbs you should be using to save the most money. For more information, log onto www.gelighting.com/gelauditor/consumer/.Honoring Mexico's Patron Saint
Thousands of faithful people went to a basilica honoring the Virgin of Guadalupe, Mexico's patron saint. But for those who were unable to make the pilgrimage in person, Pope John Paul II launched a Web site allowing them to send petitions by e-mail. The pope was the first official visitor to www.esmas.com/virgendeguadalupe/, a Web site which features real-time masses and a virtual souvenir shop. The site also has a complete history of the 1531 appearance the Virgin allegedly made to a poor peasant at Tepeyac, otherwise known as northern Mexico City.Tour White House Christmas Decorations
Traditional walking tours of the White House were canceled earlier this year because of security concerns after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, so the government has come up with a new way for you to take a look. For the first time, you can see the White House Christmas decorations in a virtual online tour. The 360-degree tour gives you views of the state rooms so you can see the holiday decorations firsthand. The Web site also includes a photo essay of the Christmas decorations, a historic look at the White House and national Christmas trees, and a collection of presidential holiday cards dating back to the Hoover administration.
