HOUSTON -

Monday night’s episode of The Voice had a lot of BIG personalities.

Take Terisa Griffin, for example. Clearly, this woman has been a performer for the majority of her life, and knows how to milk the lime light. Which she did. For a really long time. Not that she didn’t earn it—her pipes are bangin’, even though she broke one of Dena’s Cardinal Rules of Singing Competitions: Thou Shalt Leave Adele Songs the Hell Alone. But the most hilarious part of her audition was Cee Lo’s reaction when she chose Blake as her coach. As Cee Lo so aptly put it, “Blake definitely has his hands full.” And he’s right. But he extrapolated further: “That’s damn near every woman I’ve ever dated. That’s my mother, my sister, my ex wife, everybody.” I’m really hoping this is the basis of Cee Lo’s new NBC sitcom. I would watch that. Move over, Tyler Perry! Juss sayin’.

On the other side of the gospelesque diva coin, we had Michelle Brooks-Thompson, whose “Proud Mary” did me, well… proud. She reminds me a lot of Yvonne Yarborough from last season, and like Yvonne she chose Adam as her coach. Didn’t work out so well for Yvonne, so we’ll see if Michelle fares any better.

And I’m going to take this opportunity to get on my cyber soap box about something. So far this season, we’ve had an NYU grad school dropout (Collin McLoughlin, Team Adam) and now a Yale University dropout (Dez Duron, Team Xtina), both of whom have been commended for their choices to forego school and pursue their music careers. Ahem. For all of you still in school who by some stroke of luck are reading this, I just want to say one thing: IT IS NOT COOL TO DROP OUT OF SCHOOL. I’m not saying you shouldn’t follow your dreams—follow away! But, #1: The Voice films over the summer. You don’t have to drop out of school to audition. #2: no matter what field you’re in, or what you want to do with your life, having a college degree will ONLY help you. There is no way it can hurt you.

Now for the record, there are plenty of legitimate reasons for dropping out of school— it’s expensive as hell and student loans are NOT fun. I’m still paying mine off. And I’m also not saying you won’t succeed if you don’t have a college degree. There are plenty of examples contrary to that opinion. What I am saying, is that we shouldn’t glorify squandering an opportunity not everyone gets, an opportunity to get an EDUCATION and have a little piece of paper to show for it. It might not sound like much, but trust me. You want that little piece of paper. So if the whole “starving” part of the “starving artist” thing doesn’t appeal to you, don’t be a fool. Stay in school.

Rant complete. Shall we get a team breakdown?

Adam scooped up Michelle Brooks-Thompson and the young gun who kicks it old school, Brandon Mahone. Team Blake scored big time with Suzanna "Stevie Nicks" Choffel and little miss lime light Terisa Griffin. Team Xtina acquired the soulful and sexy Dez Duron, ex-Disney pop princess Jordan Pruitt and Laura Vivas. And Cee Lo picked up almost-couldn't-walk-but-it's-ok-because-he-can-now Diego Val and Alexis "How NOLA is my last name!" Marceaux.

Thanks for reading, and as always, thank for watching KPRC Local 2!
