All jokes about Christmas fruitcake aside, the holidays are a time when a lot of air travelers take to the skies bearing food and drink gifts destined for friends and relatives.

Trouble is, the Transportation Safety Administration security personnel take a dim view of many such items. With that in mind, TSA has provided a list of items you ought to leave home or ship ahead of Santa's sleigh:

  • Cranberry sauce
  • Cologne
  • Creamy dips
  • Gift baskets with food items like salsa, jams and salad dressings
  • Gravy
  • Jams
  • Jellies
  • Lotions
  • Maple syrup
  • Oils and vinegars
  • Perfume
  • Salad dressing
  • Salsa
  • Sauces
  • Snowglobes
  • Soups
  • Wine, liquor and beer

And what about fruitcake? Along with pies and other cakes, such items make require extra screening, TSA says.

And, don't bring wrapped presents through a security gate. The chances are good a security screener will ask you to unwrap your package for inspection.
