Raid at UH was conducted by NASA

HOUSTON – Federal agents who raided one of the University of Houston's science research buildings last week were with NASA's Office of Inspector General, sources told KPRC Local 2.

The office is tasked with investigating fraud, waste and mismanagement within the space agency.

Agents spent two days on campus, closing off the seventh floor of Science Research Building No. 1.

Sources told KPRC Local 2 that investigators are looking into the possible misuse of federal grant money by a professor in the physics department.

After the raid, the professor was told to not return to campus and the agents confiscated a computer, sources said.

The professor has not been named, but sources told KPRC Local 2 that there are three professors who have offices in the building and receive grant funds from NASA.

A university representative said the university is aware of the investigation, but they have been told that it is not the target.  The representative said the university has not been told who the target is.

A representative for NASA's Office of Inspector General's office had no comment.
