Houston nonprofit raising awareness worldwide for ovarian cancer

HOUSTON – September is ovarian cancer awareness month and a Houston nonprofit foundation called Ovarcome is steadfastly working to raise awareness for ovarian cancer on a global level.

Ovarcome was founded in 2012 by Runsi Sen in memory of her beloved mother who succumbed to ovarian cancer 11 months after she was diagnosed.

Ovarcome is an organization whose mission is to raise global awareness of ovarian cancer, to fund research in search of a cure and to provide financial support to underprivileged women in the U.S. and developing nations in their efforts to survive the disease. The foundation has impacted thousands of lives.

In just four years, Ovarcome has awarded more than $75,000 for research, provided financial assistance for several women through the OvarCare program both nationally and internationally, and hosted many seminars and awareness campaigns to raise awareness of ovarian cancer worldwide.

This month, Ovarcome is honoring and celebrating the incredibly amazing survivors, raising awareness worldwide, hosting national and international awareness campaigns, launching new care programs, rallying and advocating for research, and launching a jewelry line in recognition and celebration of survivorship. The organization and its mission-driven volunteers are bringing people together in the fight against ovarian cancer.

Ovarcome launched a new program it calls OvarEmbrace, a chemo care and comfort program envisioned by ovarian cancer survivor, crusader and Ovarcome ambassador Lynnsey Tirey. This program will provide care bags with essentials to ovarian cancer patients going through chemotherapy, along with a celebratory gift after the completion of chemotherapy.

In partnership with international partners, Ovarcome is conducting international grassroots awareness campaigns in India and Africa in September.

The organization is also adding more hospitals nationwide to its list to offer its financial assistance program. It is also participating in the Rally For Medical Research and Capitol Hill Day in partnership with American Association For Cancer Research to urge Congress to invest in research funding to find a cure for ovarian cancer.

Ovarcome recently announced a partnership with Survivor Collection to launch a TEAL collection called OvarShine! The Survivor Collection™ was inspired by the true story of two special friends, one battling cancer, the other supporting and championing her friend throughout her struggle.

This series of special rings, earrings and pendants made with Swarovski genuine topaz features two white and one teal-colored gem. The placement of the gems symbolizes the survivor’s three-part journey: life before cancer, the diagnosis and the moment cancer survivorship brings new clarity to life.

Ovarcome is hosting its fourth annual conference on September 30, bringing a powerhouse of speakers to educate the community about ovarian and women’s cancers.
