Compound In Beans, Nuts May Prevent Cancer

Researchers Say Compound In Common Foods Prevents Cancer

POSTED: 2:57 pm CDT September 15, 2005

British researchers have found that a compound in certain foods may prevent cancer.

Researchers at University College London recently discovered a natural compound that they said inhibits the activity of an enzyme involved in tumor growth, in addition to enhancing cancer-fighting medications.

They said the compound, called inositol pentakisphosphate, is found in beans, nuts and cereals. Researchers hope they can develop the compound into use as new cancer treatments.

The findings are published in the latest issue of Cancer Research.
