HOUSTON -- Millions of people suffer from migraines, and oftentimes, there's no explanation why. A Houston teen spent six years going to different doctors for help until he finally found a procedure that gave him relief, News2Houston reported Wednesday. The cause of the migraines was a deviated septum and extreme pressure on his sinuses. A Houston doctor said it could be the reason many people suffer from migraines.Dr. Kevin Smith scanned Andre Castillo's head to find the problem.
"When something is not right and there's an abnormal contact point, you can get this pain trigger in other parts of the head," Smith said.Smith found that Castillo had a bone spur pushing into his sinus cavity."If it's overlooked, it can mean a lifetime of misery," he said.A simple surgery was the solution. In about 30 minutes, the doctor was able to remove the bone spur, which had a shape that caused pressure.Removing the bone spur removed the pain."He's gone six days with no headache," said Alicia Arce, Andre's mother.Smith has helped others with migraines by diagnosing and treating a deviated septum. For more information on the Smith Cosmetic Surgery Center, visit www.smithctr.com or call (713) 795-0600.
