HOUSTON -- Hundreds of families lined up at Houston health clinics Thursday to get the H1N1 vaccine, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Wait times at clinics on Wednesday were up to two hours.
Michael Knight and his family tried to get the vaccine on Wednesday, but had to come back Thursday. They found a one-hour wait at a clinic on Beechnut Street.
"We got so close to the door … that's when they ran out of tickets," Knight said. "My little girls got sick yesterday while waiting in line and now they're coming down with some sort of virus. It's very important to get vaccinated."
Nine clinics will offer the vaccine for free on a first-come, first-served basis and each person must get a number. Each clinic will have about 250 doses. The Houston Health Department said it has received about 17,000 doses so far.
Two of the original H1N1 vaccination sites have been relocated to larger locations that can accommodate more people indoors due to inclement weather. The Alief WIC site will relocate to the Southwest WIC at 6400 High Star. The Northwest WIC site will relocate to the Acres Home Multi-Service Center, 6719 W. Montgomery.
A total of nine sites will offer the H1N1 vaccinations:
