FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A woman
died after undergoing a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure at a medical spa, WPLG-TV in Miami reported.
Broward County Medical Examiner Dr. Joshua Perper said that 37-year-old Rohie Kah Orukotan's body was brought to his office on Oct. 9. On Oct. 10, an autopsy was performed. The results were pending.
Toxicology results will take three to six weeks, Perper said.
Orukotan, a registered nurse and mother of three children, went to the Weston Med Spa on Sept. 25 for a minor procedure that was supposed to last no longer than two hours, according to her family.
Her lawyers said she began having seizures during the procedure, which was supposed to be a nonsurgical liposuction, and went into cardiac arrest.
An ambulance took Orukotan to the Cleveland Clinic, where she was declared legally brain dead.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office has not classified her death as a homicide and was awaiting autopsy results before deciding what, if any, charges will be filed.
