Bowl Of Mush May Have Many Benefits

The Food and Drug Administration said in 1997 that oatmeal marketers could claim that their product reduces cholesterol.
A new study says that the mush works even better against cholesterol than thought.
Dr. James W. Anderson of the University of Kentucky College said that studies over the last 15 years have show that oat consumption lowers total cholesterol and that it lowers LDL ("bad cholesterol") without harming HDL.
"Whole-grain products like oatmeal are among some of the best foods one can eat to improve cholesterol levels, in addition to other lifestyle choices," Anderson said.
He also said studies have suggested oatmeal may lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes and fight weight gain.
