HOUSTON - There are plenty of great barbecue joints in Houston, but according to a new list, a few of them stand out above the rest.
Mary Gatlin runs Gatlin's BBQ in The Heights, one of the five local spots named in Texas Monthly Magazine's Top 50 BBQ Joints in Texas.
"We had to come here," said customer Robert Wyatt, from North Carolina. "This is the best barbecue in Houston."
To many's surprise, Goode Company Barbecue did not make the list, but Leon's Finest In and Out Barbecue in Galveston did, as well as Corkscrew in Spring.
Virgie's Barbecue in northwest Houston is the only local place that made the list the last time it came out five years ago.
Sometimes, the best BBQ restaurants aren't restaurants at all. Brook's Place, a trailer is nestled in a Cypress parking lot off Barker-Cypress and FM 529.
"We're very overwhelmed with us being a trailer being amongst restaurants," said owner Trent Brooks.
Brooks said he starts slow cooking his brisket at 3 a.m. everyday.
"This is the best BBQ in the world," said one customer.
