HOUSTON -- A lot of single people have complained about dating some real dogs in their day. But now, some are hoping that their four-legged friends will help them find true love, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.
Melena Murphee has her hands full with three dogs.
"They're like a family, with me being the alpha, of course," she said.
So, the man of her dreams must love dogs.
"I want someone who understands that and needs that as much as I do," Murphee said.
But, so far, no luck.
She's hoping to find the pick of the litter at a relatively new online dating site called
www.animalattraction.com.
The free Web site is designed for people with pets who want to date others with animals.
Users register information about themselves, as well as from the perspective of their furry friends.
"It was unique and I enjoyed filling it out and I like reading other people's comments about what their animals say about them," Murphee said.
The Web site is one of a handful that has popped up recently for animal lovers looking for love themselves.
But the Internet is not the only place where dating is going to the dogs.
On any given day, you can find dozens of canines at the Danny Jackson Family Dog Park.
But singles are finding dates there as well.
"It's an easy way to actually meet people because you're actually approaching them about their dog. It's an easy way in," said Jenny Lara, a dog park patron.
"Why not, you know, it's a park? It's a good place to play and everyone is kind of here for the same reasons," said Justin Lee, a dog park patron.
"I have actually met two guys out at the dog park that I've kind of gotten numbers with," said Sarah Hooper, a dog park patron.
But can you make a love connection through your canines?
"Absolutely, definitely," Lara said.
"I'm hoping," Murphee said.
And, who knows -- maybe your pooch can find a new playmate, as well.
The creators of www.animalattraction.com expect to have close to a million members by the end of the year.
