'Cars' Backpack Toys Under Recall
Toys In Separate Package From Backpacks
POSTED: Tuesday, October 23, 2007
Game pieces that game with about 110,000 backpacks from the animated movie "Cars" have been recalled because they can fall out of their plastic pockets.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said that if magnets are swallowed they can attract each other and cause intestinal blockages or tears, which can be fatal.
The maker, Global Design Concepts received three reports of loose magnets, but no injuries, according to a news release. The company said online that the backpack is safe to use.
The 12-inch backback was sold with four sealed game pieces that contain magnets in a separate pouch. The game pieces included a red plastic car, a blue plastic car and two red and black plastic disks that have "gas," "oil," and "service" printed on them.
"Warning: Choking Hazard-Small Parts. Not for children under 3 years," is printed on the backpack hangtag.
The backbacks were sold at Target stores from from February 2007 through September 2007 for about $13.
The CPSC said people should immediately take the recalled game pieces away from young children and contact the
Cars Backpack Recall hotline at 877-848-4070 to get a replacement wallet or other product.
