Two men, six No. 1 hits, seven platinum albums … and one amazing mustache.
That would be the blue-eyed soul duo Hall & Oates of course. And while Daryl Hall captured much of the attention as the main vocalist, the real star was John Oates' mustache.
How iconic is this 'stache? So much so that casual fans who can't keep the two straight often refer to Oates simply as "the one with the mustache."
Find any picture of the duo in their prime -- a span that included such hits as "Rich Girl" and "Kiss on My List" -- and see what your eye goes first. If it isn't Oates' mustache, you're either lying or we owe you a dollar.
The caterpillar-like mustache was so amazing that it would have landed Oates the top spot on our list if he hadn't shaved it off in recent years.
Without that trademark mustache, we just don't know who you are any more Oates -- and we mean that literally.
Our top celebrity mustache was so awesome, it helped solve crimes ...
No. 1: Tom Selleck
The rest of the world might have largely turned its back on the mustache sometime after 1980, but Tom Selleck never abandoned on his lip sweater.
Throughout the 1980s we welcomed Selleck into our homes as the suave Hawaiian-shirt sporting, Ferrari-driving, Detroit Tigers-cap-wearing private eye on "Magnum, P.I."
The show was actually a haven for mustachioed masculinity between Magnum, Higgins and T.C. All of them looked at their razors and said, "That's enough."
But it's Selleck's mustache that stands out amongst the cast and all other mustachioed celebrities.
In fact, some say that Selleck's mustache holds so much power that if you look closely at a photo of the actor, his "flavor saver" seems to follow you around the room. Eerie.
Selleck's career since the late 1980s has been lackluster at best, but two decades later he'll always be Magnum to us. And for that, he can thank one awesome mustache.
