Actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the entertainment news Web site TMZ.com.
According to TMZ, the "Passion of the Christ" filmmaker was pulled over by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department early Friday morning in Malibu, Calif., and administered a Breathalyzer test.
A spokesman for the department told TMZ, "Mel Gibson was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence."
According to TMZ, the spokesman said that Gibson was released and bail was set at $5,000, and that the investigation is ongoing.
The site's calls to Gibson's representatives were not immediately returned.
Gibson, 50, is currently directing the historical adventure drama "Apocalypto."
His acting film credits include all four "Lethal Weapon" movies, "What Women Want," "Chicken Run," "We Were Soldiers" and "Braveheart."
Gibson won two Oscars for directing and producing "Braveheart" in 1996.
