HLS&R Goes Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness

Banner Signed For Sheryl Crow

In addition to a lot of cowboys, cowgirls and animals, visitors to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo will see a lot of pink Thursday. It's all for breast cancer awareness.

Sheryl Crow was the scheduled entertainer for Thursday's rodeo, but had to cancel last week when she underwent surgery for breast cancer. Another breast cancer survivor, singer Melissa Etheridge, agreed to perform in her friend's place.

The rodeo has dedicated the day to breast cancer awareness.

"Whether you're a Sheryl Crow fan or Melissa Etheridge fan, or you're just concerned about the welfare of women all over the world, come out and support this day and have a great time," said Leroy Shafer, CEO of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.

A large "Houston Loves Sheryl Crow" banner is being signed at Reliant Center. Visitors can donate $5 to sign it and proceeds go toward the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

"We're so excited to be helping the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo promote breast cancer awareness. With both Sheryl and Melissa, they caught their breast cancer early. When cancer is caught and contained in the breast, the five-year survival rate is 98 percent. That's just awesome. They both have an excellent prognosis," said Alison Evers, a breast cancer survivor.

Other items are also being sold to raise money for breast cancer research.

The banner will be delivered to Crow.

Tickets are still available for Thursday's performance. They start at $16. The rodeo begins at 6:45 p.m.
