Tom Cruise and "Son of the Mask" were the big targets of the Golden Raspberry Foundation Monday, whose Razzies dishonor the worst in film.
Cruise was nominated for Worst Actor for "War of the Worlds," and got two nods for "Most Tiresome Tabloid Target," a new category created by the Razzies "saluting the celebs we're all sick and tired of!"
In that category, he was cited for his "anti-psychiatry rant," and for his romance with Katie Holmes and for jumping on Oprah Winfrey's couch.
An ill-fated sequel to the Jim Carrey's blockbuster "The Mask," comedian Jamie Kennedy's "Son of the Mask" earned a leading eight Razzie nominations, including Worst Picture, Worst Actor for Kennedy and Worst Supporting Actor nods for Alan Cumming and Bob Hoskins.
Also up for Worst Picture are Rob Schneider's "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo," Jenny McCarthy's "Dirty Love," "The Dukes of Hazzard" and "The House of Wax."
Like Cruise, McCarthy got three Razzie nods. She's up for Worst Actress, Worst Screen Couple (for "McCarthy and anyone dumb enough to befriend her or date her") and Worst Screenplay.
Up against McCarthy for Worst Actress are Jessica Alba for "Fantastic Four" and "Into the Blue," Hilary Duff for "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" and "The Perfect Man," Jennifer Lopez for "Monster-in-Law" and Tara Reid for "Alone in the Dark."
Joining Cruise and Kennedy as Worst Actor candidates are Will Ferrell for "Bewitched" and "Kicking & Screaming," The Rock for "Doom" and Schneider for "Deuce Bigalow."
Hollywood socialite Paris Hilton didn't escape the wrath of Razzie for her work in "House of Wax." Hilton was nominated for Worst Supporting Actress for the horror film remake, and also got a nod for "Most Tiresome Tabloid Target."
Nominees for the Razzies were determined by mailing ballots to more than 725 film professionals, film journalists and film fans from 41 U.S. states and 15 foreign countries, according the foundation.
The Razzie trophy is a golf-ball-sized, handcrafted "Razzberry" atop a mangled Super 8 film reel, which is spray-painted gold. It has an estimated street value of $4.97.
The Razzies will be announced March 4, a day before the Oscars. Winners usually don't show up to pick up their trophies, although Halle Berry made a surprise appearance at the 25th Annual Razzies to scoop up her Worst Actress trophy for "Catwoman."
