CHICAGO -- A class action lawsuit has been filed in Chicago against James Frey, the author of the controversial book, "A Million Little Pieces," according to the Chicago Tribune.
The lawsuit, filed in circuit court last week, accuses Frey and his publishers of consumer fraud, according to Thomas Pakenas, the lawyer whose firm the Tribune article lists as representing the plaintiff.
Frey's book was chosen as a pick on Oprah's Book Club, but the Web site TheSmokingGun.com accused the author of making up some of his story, which is touted as a memoir of a life a crime and drug addiction.
The lawyer said his client read "A Million Little Pieces" after seeing the author on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
The lawsuit also lists Doubleday, Random House, Knopf and Vintage Anchor publishing houses as defendants, the report said.
