HOUSTON -- The nation watched as her size dwindled down on a national talk show. This week, one of
Dr. Phil's weight loss challengers visited Houston to make a dream come true -- to become a model.
Barbara Rodrique, 31, lost more than 100 pounds as a participant on Dr. Phil's popular weight loss series.
Dr. Phil sent her to Houston to sign up with
Page Parkes modeling agency.
In addition to finding work for Rodrique as a plus-size model, the agency is providing her with a portfolio and a composite card.
Plus, she is learning how to walk and carry herself like a model, as well as other tricks of the modeling trade.
"Every model has to know what they're doing. I mean, they have to be worth the money that the client is going to pay for them. We intend to get her that knowledge and get her the tools, so that we can get her placement around the world," said Shannon Fergason, with Page Parkes. "She has an amazing personality that will be able to cross over into the acting and the modeling and the print and the runway and all of it."
"I think she has a great attitude. She's very modern. She can do this," said Ginny Sebesta, with Page Parkes.
It's a dream that Rodrique never thought was possible until she "got real" with Dr. Phil.
"I thought, 'It's over for me. I'm 100 pounds overweight. What am I ever going to be able to do?' And, you can totally turn it around if you want to," she said.
She said she still wants to lose about 25 more pounds.
Modeling is nothing new to her -- she used to model as a teenager, but quit when she thought she was too overweight.
