HOUSTON -- The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will salute the troops on Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
At least two thousand soldiers from across Texas and their families will be in attendance.
The troops have been invited to enjoy the rodeo for free as a thank-you for their service. They can get in free by wearing their uniform or showing their military identification.
Some members of the military in attendance were wounded in war.
"They'll be some families coming with wounded warriors from Brook Army Medical Center and some burn victims and amputees," said Sloan Gibson, president of the United Service Organizations. "We've also got National Guard and Reservists who will be here with their families as well."
"I think it's terrific what they're doing to support the vets and bring out a lot of the wounded vets, because they need all the support we can give them," Navy veteran Rich Ford said.
A special salute to the troops will be held at 3 p.m. at Reliant Arena.
Representatives of all the branches of the military are at the rodeo to recruit new members and educated the public.
