HOUSTON -- A country music duo sensation is calling it quits.
Brooks and Dunn made the announcement on their Web site:
"To Our Fans:
"After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have agreed as a duo that it's time to call it a day. This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed. We owe it all to you, the fans. If you hear rumors, don't believe them, it's just time.
"We will release our '#1's and then some' on Sept. 8 and bid you farewell one last time in 2010, with The Last Rodeo Tour...(dates to be announced)."
Brooks and Dunn have performed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo every year since 1992.
The chief operating officer of Rodeo Houston, Leroy Shafer, said, "Brooks and Dunn hold a special place in our history and in our hearts. They're one of only four acts to perform in front of more than 1 million people in our show."
Kix Brooks, 54, and Ronnie Dunn, 56, were struggling solo artists when Arista's Tim DuBois urged them to join forces in 1990. Together they've scored 23 No. 1 hits. They won numerous awards from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association, and dominated the "best duo" awards category.
The duo's many hits include "Boot Scootin' Boogie," ''My Maria," ''Red Dirt Road" and "Cowgirls Don't Cry" with Reba McEntire.
The acts for the 2010
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo have not yet been announced.
