HOUSTON -- Michael Jackson’s cardiologist, who practices in the Houston area, was being questioned by Los Angeles homicide investigators on Saturday.
But Dr. Conrad Murray is not a suspect, said an attorney at the law firm that represents.
"He is just a witness (who) police want to talk to fill in all the blanks and put all of the pieces of the puzzle together to determine a cause of death,” said attorney Matt Alford.
KPRC Local 2 has confirmed that Murray, who practices at the Acres Home Heart and Vascular Institute, has been hit with at least two civil lawsuits Houston.
Alford said his law firm -- Stradley, Chernoff & Alford -- was retained by Murray on Friday. He said the lawsuits have no bearing on the Jackson investigation.
He also says Murray's reported financial problems related to his company –- Nevada-based Global Cardiovascular Associates -- are not relevant to the case.
"It has absolutely no bearing on Mr. Jackson's death or Dr. Murray's course of treatment, whatever that was,” Alford said. “I don't know what his finances have anything to do with that."
The local lawsuits included a still active breach of contract case filed against Murray's Houston practice by Rogers Northwest Inc. The company leases medical equipment.
The second case was filed by an out-of-state company called Popular Leasing USA. Court records showed that the equipment leasing company won a judgment against Murray and is seeking to have it enforced in Harris County.
Meanwhile, Alford says his partner, Ed Chernoff, was in Los Angeles Saturday to meet with Los Angeles investigators.
Despite the questions and images of Murray's car being towed from Jackson's home, Alford said Murray is being cooperative and has nothing to hide.
