HOUSTON -- When you put together rides, cowboys, and music, it adds up to a whole lot of rodeo fun.
"It's great. I love the rides," said Buc Howard.
More than 59,000 people flocked to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's opening night for all kinds of reasons.
"We're doing TAKS in school," high school student Demi Hodam said. "It's great to get away from all that."
For young Elizabeth McGowan, there's an added bonus at the carnival.
"Because I can go out here with my family," she said.
"It's very good fun," said Elizabeth's mother, Donna. "We can come out here as a family and laugh and have fun with no worries."
From the children to the grownups, the carnival proves you're never too old to play games.
Tom and Tammy Hartman said they average one stuffed animal every 10 minutes.
"Did you come in here with a strategy on how to win?" asked Local 2 reporter Elizabeth Scarborough.
"Just practice from last year," said Tammy Hartman.
Inside Reliant Stadium, Mallory Monroy is experiencing her first rodeo.
"What do you think about seeing real cowboys?" asked Scarborough.
"They're hot!" said Monroy.
People were psyched to be there opening night.
The Rascal Flatts concert had about 10,000 empty seats, but the people who saw the band said they wouldn't rather be anywhere else.
