Those mad at former Wall Street money manager Bernard Madoff have a bit of stress relief coming their way thanks to a new product showcased at the American International Toy Fair in New York this week.
Collectibles company ModelWorks unveiled a "Made Off With My Money" doll styled after the alleged multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme operator. A statute that resembles a bobblehead doll, the downsized replica features Madoff wearing a devilishly red suit and holding a pitchfork.
The doll comes with a hammer, which in turn can be used by its new owner to smash it. The cost of revenge isn't cheap, though. With a suggested retail price of $99.95, the Madoff doll costs much more than your ordinary action figure.
While some alleged real-life villains were featured at Toy Fair, toy and collectibles companies displayed their share of fictional movie villains -- and heroes.
Hasbro unveiled figures and vehicles from three major movie lines: "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra," three anticipated summer blockbusters opening in May, June and August, respectively.
Meanwhile, Mattel showed more Batman products from its "Dark Knight" movie line, while specialty company NECA showed some new "Harry Potter" movie and "Exorcist" action figures. NECA also showed new figures from its "Twilight" movie line.
Tonner Doll company also is getting in on the "Twilight" action, with collector dolls of Edward and Bella from the movie.
Another specialty company, Mezco, highlighted such products as figures from its "Cinema of Fear" collection including new and classic versions of the hockey-mask wearing Jason from the "Friday the 13th" movies, and Freddy Kruger from the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" film series.
Opting to debut its Toy Fair-related products online instead, high-end collectibles company Sideshow Collectibles released on its Web site images of "Star Wars" hero Lando Calrissian 12-inch figure from "The Empire Strikes Back;" and 12-inch figures of various characters from "GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra."
Sideshow also announced the availability of a life-sized bust of the Gillman from Universal Studios Monsters classic "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" and a statue of Obi-Wan Kenobi sabotaging the Death Star from the first movie in the original "Star Wars" movie. A diorama of the Queen Alien from "Aliens" was also unveiled.
Also coming to toy shelves are high-profile movie toys from "Star Trek" by toy company Playmates. The company is producing action figure, play sets and role-playing items from the film, due in theaters in May, including a transporter and bridge set from the Enterprise.
The company also is responsible for figures and vehicle sets from the upcoming "Terminator Salvation" movie, also set for a May release.
