Where Are 'The Dukes Of Hazzard' Stars Now?

Classic TV Show Turns 30 In January

POSTED: Tuesday, December 2, 2008

It's been nearly 30 years since the action comedy hit "The Dukes of Hazzard" raced its way on to the small screen, but that hasn't slowed down the good ol' boys (and girl) behind the wheel of the General Lee.

Making its debut on CBS as a mid-season replacement series on Jan. 26, 1979, the show wrapped up in 1985 after seven years on the air. In the interim, it made stars John Schneider (Bo Duke), Tom Wopat (Luke Duke) and Catherine Bach (Daisy Duke) cultural icons, revving up careers for the three that are still going strong today.

The show itself has had plenty of gas ever since, spawning several cast reunions, museums and tourist attractions, merchandising tie-ins and a revival of the show in reruns on Country Music Television in 2006.

The return of the show came on the heels on a big screen version of "The Dukes of Hazzard" in 2005, starring Johnny Knoxville (Luke Duke), Seann William Scott (Bo Duke) and Jessica Simpson (Daisy Duke).

In an @ The Movies interview before the release of the "Dukes" film, Scott told Tim Lammers that he and Knoxville knew better than to try and imitate Schneider's and Wopat's portrayals of Bo and Luke. Simply put, Schneider and Wopat made the roles their own when they got behind the wheel of the General Lee in 1979, and Scott's and Knoxville's jobs were to update the concept for a new generation.

"By casting Johnny and I, they knew that we were going to make it like two wild hillbillies," Scott said. "There's no sense in trying to do what John Schneider and Tom Wopat did. Obviously we had to update the idea a little, but overall, we got to cater to the fans of the show and make it a really fun ride for new fans."
