Wings Over Houston Takes Place This Weekend

POSTED: Thursday, October 23, 2008
UPDATED: 6:04 pm CDT October 23, 2008

Eyes will be on the sky this weekend as the annual Wings Over Houston Airshow comes to town, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

The show at Ellington Field will include Team Oracle -- a father-son aerobatic team.

The father, Sean Tucker, has performed more than 1,000 times at more than 425 air shows. His son, Eric Tucker, is now by his side.

"It gets to the point where the machine becomes you. And it's like the wings become your arms and the controls become your feathers. It's a pretty special experience," pilot Eric Tucker said.

Sean Tucker is the wingman. But once in the air, everyone is equal.

"It's like an art, so you can never actually have that sort of perfect flight. So, you're always learning, you're always figuring out, just like the finer points of the airplane. It gets to the point that you're not even in a flying machine anymore," Eric Tucker said.

The USAF Thunderbirds Demonstration Team will perform, too, as part of the 24th anniversary of the air show.

"The Wings Over Houston Airshow is about the fifth largest air show in the nation. We have a hidden secret here. We enjoy sharing it with our citizens and our veterans and anyone who wants to come and have a great time," said Everett Gibson with Wings over Houston.

Wings Over Houston takes place on Saturday and Sunday. Gates will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The aerial performances start at 10 a.m. each day.

Ticket prices range from $18-$125 per adult or $35 for Family Pack. Visit www.wingsoverhouston.com/woh_tickets.htm for details.
