According to Los Angeles television station KNBC, a public information officer at LAX confirmed to the station that West was arrested and led away in handcuffs and that he is facing battery and vandalism charges.

A witness told KNBC that West's arrest followed a scuffle with paparazzi.

The incident happened 7:51 a.m. at Terminal 4, at an American Airlines security checkpoint, according to the LAX spokesman.

The celebrity gossip Web site TMZ.com said that one of its photographers was videotaping the scene of the alleged incident when West's assistant grabbed the camera. The site said that "a struggle ensued and the assistant threw the video camera to the ground, breaking it."

"When Kanye realized our camera guy had videotaped the incident, he rushed our guy and yelled, "Gimme that f---- tape," TMZ said.

TMZ reported that the vandalism charge against West would be a felony charge.
