UPDATED: 5:20 pm CDT September 6, 2008

The MTV Video Music Awards will be presented Sunday at Paramount Studios, the first time the ceremony will be held in Southern California since 1998.

Britney Spears, Jonas Brothers, Chris Brown, Pussycats Dolls and The Ting Tings are the nominees for the Moonman for video of the year.

British comedian-actor Russell Brand will serve as host. Performers include Kid Rock, Lil Wayne, Jonas Brothers, Rihanna, Pink, T.I. and Paramore.

A dazzling array of pop culture figures are set to serve as presenters, including record-setting swimmer Michael Phelps, "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johansson and the cast of the upcoming film, "High School Musical 3."

The awards were last held in Southern California in 1998 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City. Since then, the ceremony was held six times in New York City, twice in Miami and once in Las Vegas.

"The city of Los Angeles is proud to host the MTV Video Music Awards," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said. "There is no better place to hold of the music industry's most exciting awards shows.

"We will roll out the red carpet for MTV and allow this awards show to not only recognize the best in music, but to also celebrate the creative talent and diversity our great city has to offer."
