Matthew McConaughey said that he and his girlfriend, Camila Alves, plan to bury the placenta that held their baby in an orchard in Australia.
Alves gave birth to their son, Levi, last month and the actor kept the placenta.
McConaughey told Dr. Sanjay Gupta on his CNN show that it's an aboriginal custom to bury the placenta as a fertility rite.
He said that when he was in Australia he saw a tree where women buried their placentas and it was a "huge behemoth of just health and strength."
The film star said that the tree was "growing taller and stronger above the rest of Mother Nature," and that's where he and Alves will bury her placenta.
"It's going to be in the orchards and it's going to bear some wonderful fruit," McConaughey said in an interview transcript.
McConaughey most recently starred in the romantic comedy "Fool's Gold" opposite his "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" co-star Kate Hudson.
The actor's other film credits include "We Are Marshall," "Sahara," "Contact," "Amistad," "A Time to Kill" and "Dazed and Confused."
