Report: Williams Denies Ledger Family Rift

Late Actor's Family To Attend 'Dark Knight' Premiere

Michelle Williams' publicist is setting the record straight on media speculation that the actress is snubbing "The Dark Knight" premiere because of tension between her and the family of her late ex-fiancé, Heath Ledger, according to People magazine.

"The presumption that Michelle ever intended to attend 'The Dark Knight' premiere is unfounded, but to say she is 'boycotting' due to a rift with Heath's family is absurd," Mara Buxbaum said in a statement. "It is time to allow this family to go about their lives without this continued scrutiny and speculation."

The statement in People comes after confirmation that Ledger's family is flying in from Australia to attend the premiere of the "Batman Begins" sequel July 14 in New York City.

Williams and Ledger, who had one child together, broke off their engagement in 2007.

Ledger died Jan. 22 of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs at age 28.

Williams and Ledger were nominated for Oscars for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actor, respectively, for "Brokeback Mountain" in 2005.

Ledger plays Batman's (Christian Bale) nemesis The Joker in "The Dark Knight," the last full role he completed before his death.

The actor had not completed his role fantasy film "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" before his death. Instead of re-casting the role, director Terry Gilliam hired Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell to represent different aspects of the character Ledger was playing.
