"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," "The Wizard of Oz," "The Godfather" and "City Lights" share top billing among the American Film Institute's best genre movies.

The organization revealed the list of the 10 best films in 10 different genres Tuesday night on CBS.

"Snow White" took the top prize for animated films, while "The Wizard of Oz" won for fantasy. Coming in at No. 2 behind "The Wizard of Oz" was "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring."

Charlie Chaplin's "City Lights," from 1931, one of only two silent films to make the genre lists, was a surprise, beating such popular modern romances as "Annie Hall," No. 2 on the list. "When Harry Met Sally" checked in at No. 6 and "Sleepless in Seattle" at No. 10.

Other No. 1 genre movies included "The Searchers" for Westerns; "Raging Bull" for sports; "To Kill a Mockingbird" for courtroom dramas; "Lawrence of Arabia" in the epics category; "Vertigo" for mystery and "2001: A Space Odyssey" in science fiction."

"The Godfather" was ranked by the AFI as the top gangster movie.
