Pancreatic cancer isn't stopping actor Patrick Swayze from working on a new television series.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Swayze's series "The Beast" has been picked up by the A&E network.
Swayze will star as an "unorthodox but effective FBI veteran" who trains a new partner in "his hard-edged and psychologically clever style of agenting," the Reporter said.
The cable channel has ordered 13 shows with a premiere set for early in 2009, the trade magazine noted.
According to the Reporter, Swayze did not address his health in an A&E statement, but executives said Swayze has been cleared by his doctor to resume work.
"I have searched for quite a long time to find a character that is this mutilayered, unpredictable and downright entertaining as well as a project this current and cutting-edged," Swayze said in the statement.
The "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost" star released a statement to People magazine last month to say that he's responding well to his chemotherapy treatment for his pancreatic cancer at Stanford University in California.
"Lisa and I have been back and forth from New Mexico enjoying the arrival of spring and new baby calves," Swayze said in the statement. "This past weekend we spent a fun time with friends in Reno for Lisa's birthday. In the meantime, I am continuing treatment at Stanford and the great news is, I continue to respond well."
