"Every Loves Raymond" star Ray Romano apparently wants to take another run at television -- but this time in there will be some drama mixed in with the comedy.
Cable network TNT announced Tuesday that "Raymond" Emmy winners Romano and writer-producer Mike Royce are working on a pilot script for "Men of a Certain Age," a project about a man approaching mid-life that explores the unique bond of male friendship.
"'Men of a Certain Age' is about the highs and lows of being a guy in the modern era. It's about three best friends, each hoping to fulfill his dreams before the clock starts running out," said Michael Wright, senior vice president in charge of the content creation group for TNT and its sister networks, TBS and Turner Classic Movies. "It's an honest, emotional, funny and very personal take on the subject."
According to TNT, the show will focus on Romano's character, Joe -- a friendly, 40-something, slightly neurotic, divorced father of two.
Romano's "Everybody Loves Raymond" ran from 1996 to 2005. His projects since have included a voice role in 2006's "Ice Age: The Meltdown," the sequel to the 2002 animated film hit "Ice Age."
"Men of a Certain Age" is part of TNT's plan to change most of the network's weekday and primetime offerings to original programming by 2010.
