HOUSTON -- It's time to rodeo! The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo's World Championship Bar-B-Que Contest began Thursday night and runs through Saturday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Thousands of guests are expected to visit the kickoff event, held in the parking lot of Reliant Center.
More than 350 cooking teams put their best recipes to the test to try and win a trophy, which are awarded to teams preparing the best dish in each category -- brisket, chicken, pork and spare ribs. Awards are also given for decor. Judging will be held on Saturday.
Tickets are $7 for visitors, 13 years and older; $4 for 3 - 12 years old, and free for those 2 years and younger.
With each ticket purchased, visitors are given a complimentary chopped beef sandwich plate in the Chuck Wagon public food tent. They are also invited to an area known as The Garden, which will provide live, local entertainment and dancing.
The cooking team tents are private parties and require an invitation to enter.
The hours are as follows.
