Entertainment Shows Pull Ledger Video

'ET,' 'Insider' Nix Showing Party Video Out Of Respect For Family

POSTED: Thursday, January 31, 2008

"Entertainment Tonight" and its sister show said Thursday that they will not air a video that shows the late Heath Ledger at a Hollywood party where drugs were apparently being taken.

"Out of respect for Heath Ledger's family, 'Entertainment Tonight' and 'The Insider' have decided not to run the Heath Ledger video that has been circulating in the world media," the shows announced on their Web sites.

The decision to pull the video comes a day after "The Insider" aired a "preview" that showed an unidentified man apparently snorting cocaine. The show said, however, that the video does not show Ledger doing drugs.

Ledger, who was 28, died in his Manhattan apartment nine days ago. The medical examiner's office in New York said that an autopsy on Ledger the day after he died was inconclusive, and more tests are needed.

A spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office said that toxicological tests would be conducted on tissue samples taken from Ledger's body. Results were expected later this week.

Prior to the autopsy, police said the death of the "Brokeback Mountain" Oscar nominee was caused by a possible drug overdose and appeared to be accidental. There were sleeping pills nearby Ledger's body, police said.

Authorities found six different types of prescription drugs in Ledger's apartment, including pills to treat insomnia and anxiety and an antihistamine, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. Three of the drugs were prescribed in Europe.

Ledger, who also had starring roles in such films as "10 Things I Hate About You," "Monster's Ball" and most recently, "I'm Not There," recently completed his work as The Joker on the "Batman Begins" sequel "The Dark Knight."

He was currently at work on the fantasy film, "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," with director Terry Gilliam in London. The future of that film remains uncertain.

Ledger is survived by a 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, whom he fathered with actress Michelle Williams.
