HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Kiefer Sutherland was arrested Tuesday morning on misdemeanor drunken driving charges after police stopped him for allegedly making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.
Los Angeles police said that the "24" star was pulled over in western Los Angeles at 1:10 a.m. and he failed a field sobriety test.
Sutherland tested over the state's legal blood-alcohol limit of .08 percent, Officer Karen Smith said.
He was booked at the LAPD's Hollywood station and released after posting $25,000 bail.
TMZ.com pointed out that Sutherland pleaded no contest to drunken driving in November of 2004 and got five years probation. That means if he's convicted on this new charge, he could be facing a probation violation.
The judge in Sutherland's 2004 case was the same one who sent Paris Hilton to jail. The actor is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16.
Sutherland won a Best Dramatic Actor Emmy in 2006 for playing government Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer in the real-time series. He was nominated in the category again this year.
Sutherland has starred in such films as "The Lost Boys," "Stand By Me," "Flatliners" and "A Few Good Men."
Last year, he starred opposite Michael Douglas and Eva Longoria in the action thriller "The Sentinel."
