Apparently it was an offer Paramount Pictures couldn't refuse.
California-based Sideshow Collectibles announced at the San Diego ComicCon Wednesday that it has been granted a merchandising license from the studio to produce collectibles from the classic film "The Godfather."
The company debuted an 18-inch tall "Premium Format" figure of
Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone at the annual pop culture convention in Southern California Thursday.
In addition to Premium Format figures, the company said that agreement will also allow them to produce 12-inch figures and life-size busts of Corleone and the film's growing range of iconic film characters.
Both directed by Francis Ford Coppola and co-written by Coppola and Mario Puzo, "The Godfather" and its sequel "The Godfather II" won Best Picture Oscars in 1972 and 1974, respectively.
Among the first film's 11 Oscar nominations and three wins was a Best Actor statuette for Brando.
In another agreement with Paramount announced at ComicCon, Sideshow said it was producing Premium Format figures, 12-inch figures, busts and more for the new "Indiana Jones" film, as well as the first three installments in the Harrison Ford film trilogy.
Sideshow has already produced several acclaimed movie collectible lines, including items for "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Universal Studios Monster movies, characters from the James Bond film series and the "Star Wars" saga.
