LONDON -- For as little as $18 or less, fans will soon be able to get their hands on new Harry Potter book -- a far more affordable price than the first-edition book that introduced the boy wizard.
According to Bonhams auctioneers in London, a first edition of author J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" sold for $18,000 Tuesday at an auction to an anonymous buyer.
Bonhams said that the price is unprecedented for a book that is relatively new and whose author is still alive.
Publishers retitled the "Philosopher's Stone" as "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" for its U.S. release.
It has been followed by five more releases, with the seventh and final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," set for a July 21 release in the U.S.
So far, the books have sold more than 325 million copies worldwide and spawned four films.
The fifth movie, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as Harry, Hermoine and Ron, respectively, will hit theaters July 11.
