WASHINGTON, D.C. – A 17-year-old Sugar Land resident won $100,000 after placing fourth in the 2017 Regeneron Science Talent Search, the nation's oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors.
Byron Xu examined marine seismic data and the reflections of sound waves, with a goal of calculating ocean water temperatures in more detail than current techniques allow. Xu is also an accomplished violinist who performs with the All-Region orchestras.
